Every chassis ever designed has strengths and weaknesses. The LX architecture is quite capable as it is derived from a proven Mercedes Benz architecture. We have found that bump-steer and excessive bush compliance lead to rapid front tire tire wear on the LX series of vehicles.

There are significant bumpsteer changes in just a 40mm (1 1/2 inch) range up and down from at rest ride height. These changes occur hundreds and thousands of time as you drive in every day conditions. It is the normal motion of the suspension that creates these large changes. In OE configuration bumpsteer is measured to total 15mm. The installation of Pedders EP2113 Bumpsteer Correction Kit reduces this range from 15mm OE to 4mm Pedderised. The chart below shows the amount of height change in 10mm increments across and the bumpsteer vertically.   

The Pedders solutions are cost effective and will not only restore your LX to like new performance, Pedders Bump-steer Correction, Radius Rod and Wishbone Control Arm Bushes will make your LX perform better than new and deliver longer tire life. By decreasing the range and number of toe changes tires last longer. By increasing the stability of the front suspension with improved radius rod and wishbone control arm bushes the range of dynamic alignment changes is decreased further increasing tire life.

For those who have installed robust (read as HEAVY) custom stereo systems or routinely carry full passenger and cargo loads; you can improve rear tire life too. Some LX vehicles arrive from the factory with Nivomat self levelling rear shocks. These are well suited to carry heavy loads, but can only be used with a specific OE coil or Pedders 2942 Nivomat compatible coils. The majority of LX vehicles are built by Chrysler with standard rear twin tube dampers (no load carrying capacity) and modest rate rear OE coils. With a full load in the vehicle rear negative camber increases to -2.5 or higher. Negative cambers this high in large passenger vehicles results in rapid rear tire wear. In addition to private use, fleet vehicles (Taxis and First Responders) see tires on the LX as a major fleet maintenance expense. Converting your LX to Pedders 7841 Heavy Duty OE Ride Height Coils and 141206 Gas Sports Ryder Dampers will get your rear suspension under control. Fully loaded your rear combers change will be reduced by more than 50%. With Pedders coils and dampers on the rear of your LX IRS you will see improved vehicle control, superior load carrying and longer tire life with excellent ride quality.
